“eloping boy” (Frank Stanford)

“eloping boy”

he ran with danger
and the best looking of the other daughters
she was setting her hair one evening
like the night done up pretty
in the hotel
and he
who was nothing more
than a lame brat
went to see if they would sell him a bottle
when he got back she was
a widow
the gypsies say love
is so strange
even the sound of it
is like a wounded animal
